School Games Colour Run 2024

Living Sport, hosts of the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough School Games Colour Run event, were delighted to welcome over 500 young people from local schools to Milton Country Park for a day full of colour and fun!

Living Sport were pleased to be able to organise and deliver a more non-traditional activity to young people who do not typically have the opportunity to participate in sports or physical activities outside of their school environment.

The three intended outcomes and purposes of this event were to reintegrate peers and tackle social isolation/disconnection to support school transitioning from primary to secondary school and to provide a positive physical activity experience for those less engaged students.

The School Games is a free to access offer to all schools across Cambridgeshire & Peterborough. All secondary schools were initially invited to attend, and we were pleased to welcome over 25 schools to the 2024 event as a result.

Following feedback and learning from the pilot event in 2021, Living Sport were keen to explore more options with their ‘event village’. This year they were delighted to invite local partners from across the county to deliver some pop-up and interactive activities and offer the year 7 and year 8 students to explore new activities. Some of these included ‘blend your own smoothie’ bikes, a climbing wall, soft archery, table tennis, crazy golf, badminton, boxing, healthy lifestyle & education sessions, inflatable football targets and more! Living Sport would like to thank every one of our partners who came along to support the event and those who also volunteered to marshal on the Colour Run route.

‘We would like to thank everyone involved in our annual Colour Run held at Milton Country Park. Once again, we had a fantastic day, enabling young people from secondary schools across the county to come together and experience the joy of physical activity and movement in a fun, safe and inspiring environment. From experiencing the 3.2km Colour Run course, to the numerous activities within the event village, over 350 young people have had the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of being active. We measure success at events like this by the smiles on faces, and today, we saw plenty of smiles.

The Colour Run consisted of a 3.2-kilometre route around the full site at Milton Country Park. The young people took part in a quick and high-energy warm-up lead by Clubbercise with Amelia, before heading off on the route containing nine designated colour zones. Young leaders from Impington and Cottenham Village College ensured the day ran smoothly by providing excellent support across all the colour zones and marshal stations.
