Sporting Chance Scheme

Living Sport (the Active Partnership for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough) are launching a new small funding initiative for 2023 in light of the cost-of-living crisis to support young people and families on low-income to participate in sport and physical activity.

We have prioritised this work and the limited funding we have to support as many children, young people as we possibility can at a changing time.

We are opening this opportunity to sports clubs and community groups in Peterborough, Fenland and Cambridge City, which enable sport and physical activity. Qualifying clubs can ‘opt-in’ to this scheme. Once the ‘opt-in’ window is closed, Living Sport will reach out to low-income families in your area through our trusted partners to provide them with the financial support they need in order for their child or children to participate in your sport/physical activity offer.

Why are we doing this?
Recent evidence alarmingly highlights that “tens of thousands of participants in sport and other physical activities are at risk of missing out on opportunities to play over the next six months due to cost of living pressures.” Sported, (2023), and as an Active Partnership we are positioning ourselves to be able to respond to this in a timely manner. In order to do this though, we need the support of sports clubs to be on board with this initiative – which will also support with sustainability and membership flow of the sports club too.

“Over two-in-three clubs expect economic pressures to force kids out of participating during 2023 – even when activities are free. 72 per cent of these groups have already been forced into changes to offset cost of living increases including reducing the number of sessions offered or lowering the numbers of young people who can take part.”
